For his first solo exhibition at the gallery, Pedro Henriques presents a set of new works carried out in the last year, as well as a first showing selection of drawings.
This set uses strategies that mix pictorial and sculptural practice, wandering in an experimental and ambiguous zone that is punctuated by the inclusion of drawing and its graphic nature.
Depth and surface coexist, sometimes caustically between quick inscriptions, others sliding in temporary harmonies of colour and plane. The forms, which can be suggestive and almost verbal, invariably lead to an inconclusive interpretation. These shapes are covered with strange improvised skins, which are sometimes gestural and almost primitive while in others of a contemplative nature, of slow and diluted cadence.
Pedro Henriques (Porto, 1985) studied Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He exhibits regularly since 2008. His recent exhibitions include: CAV - Centro De Artes Visuais, Coimbra, 2020; Matadero, Madrid, 2018; National Gallery, Prague, 2017; Serralves Museum, Porto, 2014/15/16. He was a finalist in the EDP Foundation's New Artists Award in 2013 and winner of the Novo Banco Revelation Award in 2014. Pedro Henriques lives and works in Lisbon.
